A modular kitchen is one of the most demanding places in a home — heat, steam, water and daily use. The board you choose decides whether it stays crisp for 15 years or sags in three.
Best grade: BWP / marine
Kitchens need BWP (marine, IS:710) plywood for the carcass and shutters. It withstands the constant moisture that MR and even BWR can't.
Thickness
| Part | Thickness |
|---|---|
| Base & wall cabinet carcass | 18 mm |
| Shutters | 18 mm |
| Back panels | 6–12 mm |
| Shelves | 18 mm |
Where WPC beats plywood
For the sink unit and any panel that gets splashed daily, a WPC board is even safer — 100% waterproof and termite-proof. Many designers use marine ply for the carcass and WPC for the wettest panels.
Finishes
Top your boards with laminates for toughness or membrane doors for a seamless look. Always band and seal every cut edge — exposed end-grain is where water gets in.
