WPC boards are pitched as "waterproof, termite-proof" — but they're not a straight plywood replacement. Here's an honest side-by-side so you pick the right material for each part of your home.
What is a WPC board?
WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) blends wood fibre with virgin polymer and additives — roughly 70% polymer, 15% additives, 15% wood powder. It behaves more like rigid plastic than wood: no water absorption, nothing for termites to eat.
Side-by-side
| Factor | WPC Board | Plywood |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | 100% waterproof | Excellent in BWP/marine; MR/BWR can swell |
| Termite/pest | 100% proof | Treatable; organic |
| Load strength | Lower | Higher |
| Screw holding | Good (light/medium) | Excellent |
| Finish | Laminate/paint; ready options | Needs laminate/veneer |
Where WPC wins
Kitchen base units, bathroom cabinets, damp-wall wardrobes, wall panelling, false ceilings, and exteriors like cladding and garden furniture.
Where plywood wins
Bookshelves, beds, dining tables and heavy storage — anything load-bearing or needing the best screw grip.
Gattani makes both — explore WPC boards and plywood.

Is WPC board really better than plywood?
For wet areas and termite-prone walls, yes. For heavy load-bearing furniture, plywood is stronger. Use each where it's best.
Can WPC be used for a full kitchen?
Yes — it's excellent for carcasses and shutters. For very heavy storage, some builders combine it with plywood.
Does WPC board need lamination?
It can be painted or laminated; pre-laminated ready-to-use panels are also available.
