IS:710 vs IS:303: What Plywood Certifications Actually Mean

Buying Guide · Gattani Plywood · Updated June 2026

The numbers stamped on a sheet aren't marketing — they're Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications. Knowing IS:710 from IS:303 is your best defence against paying marine prices for moisture-resistant board.

The two standards that matter

StandardCoversMeaning
IS:303MR & BWRGeneral-purpose & boiling-water-resistant grades for interior/dry use
IS:710Marine / BWPBoiling-water-proof grade for continuous-moisture & exterior use

IS:710 is the higher, stricter standard — a more demanding boiling-water test, which is why genuine marine ply costs more.

Verify a genuine board

Look for the BIS/ISI mark with the correct IS number, a consistent brand name, batch markings and a written warranty. Ask the dealer to show the certification.

IS:303 = MR/BWR (interior & dry). IS:710 = marine/BWP (wet & exterior). Match the standard to where the board will live.

Every Gattani board is made to deliver consistent, certified performance — see our plywood range or read the BWP vs BWR guide.
